I think most of us know this song from April Wine’s 1981 ‘The Nature of the Beast’ album. When I was prepping for the reunion jam this year, I stumbled across the original recording, by the original artist – Lorence Hud, another Canadian, who wrote the song and released it on his self-titled LP in 1972.
Although both versions are great, in many ways I like Lorence’s better, especially as a solo acoustic song. I played through it a couple of times last night on my high strung guitar (ADGCEA, like a regular guitar at capo 5) and that seemed to put the melody in the sweet spot for my voice. I think I’ll put this in my internet show tonight. Check it out!
